KNOW YOURSELF AND CONTROL YOUR PARTNER!
Baji Association is organising Tuishou and Qin Na seminars introducing traditional Chinese Tuishou and Qin Na techniques under the guidance of Master Lü Baochun. The seminars will take place at Arabian nuorisotalo on two consecutive Sundays in October, the 18th and 25th of October 2026.
WHAT IS TUISHOU?
Tuishou, or push hands, is a training method between two practitioners in which the fundamental principles of movement are explored through touch. At the heart of Tuishou lies the ability to listen and recognise your partner’s force, direction, and intention – and to learn to respond softly, in balance, and without resisting. The practice develops sensitivity, timing, balance, and whole‑body coordination in a way that complements the foundational methods of all internal Chinese martial arts.
Tuishou is suitable for everyone, regardless of background or martial experience. The aim is not to defeat your partner, but to find a shared rhythm in which both practitioners can explore and deepen their understanding of movement. The principles of Tuishou – rooting, softness, receiving force, and redirecting it – form a foundation that can be applied in martial practice, body mechanics, and in the safe and effective study of Qin Na techniques.
WHAT IS QIN NA?
Qin Na (qìnná, 擒拿) refers to the locking and control techniques found in Chinese martial arts, used to stop, guide, or neutralise an opponent’s movement. Qin Na combines body mechanics, tactile sensitivity, and precise gripping methods to create techniques that control joints, tendons, muscles, or posture.
Qin Na training does not rely on strength, but on correct timing, structural understanding, and reading your partner’s movement. This is why the principles of Tuishou – listening, balance, softness, and redirecting force – provide an excellent foundation for learning Qin Na. When the body learns to respond naturally to touch without unnecessary tension, Qin Na techniques emerge organically as part of the flow of movement.
Qin Na offers practitioners a practical way to explore how the principles of internal movement transform into concrete applications: control, releases, breaking balance, and safe physical management.
The seminar is suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced practitioners – the master and his students meet each participant exactly where they are.
