BIAN GAN SEMINAR 2026 IS COMING!<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Baji Association is organising a Bian Gan seminar to explore the techniques and movements of the traditional Chinese bian gan (bi\u0101ng\u0101n, \u97ad\u7aff)<\/strong> \u2014 the whip staff<\/em> \u2014 under the guidance of Master L\u00fc Baochun<\/strong> and his long-term student Harri Eskelinen<\/strong>. The seminar will take place outdoors at the courtyard of Hertsikka Primary School on 12\u201313 September 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT IS BIAN GAN?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The bian gan, or whip staff<\/em>, is a traditional Chinese martial arts weapon and hybrid polearm. Roughly 13 hand-widths long (the ideal length reaches from your toes to your sternum), it merges the fluid, continuous mechanics of the staff (gun<\/em>), the piercing thrusts of the spear (qiang<\/em>), and the close\u2011quarters cutting or chopping leverage of a two\u2011handed saber or sword (jian<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this seminar, we will teach the whip staff form<\/strong> as well as applications for the movements within the form<\/strong>. Training takes place outdoors in the courtyard of Hertsikka Primary School<\/strong>, with rain cover available if needed. Wear anything comfortable that allows you to move freely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar is suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
