Spring 2012 Weekend Courses

Taiji

The main purpose of these courses is to compensate for the cancelled classes of autumn 2011. They are on different weekends so that as many people as possible would be able to attend at least one of them.

The program on both days is approximately as follows:

10:00-11:30 Yang Taiji

11:30-13:00 Chen Taiji (yi lu)

13:00-14:00 Lunch break

14:00-15:00 Taiji Tuishou

15:00-16:00 Chen Taiji Sword

Time: Sunday 4.3.2012 and Saturday 14.4.2012 at 10-16

Place: Elias school, Ehrensvärdintie 31-35, Helsinki.

Price: These courses are completely free of charge for all of those members who have paid for at least one whole season course on one of the topics taught (single lesson payments excluded). For others the price is 30 euros per day, both days for a total of 50 euros. This offer cannot be combined with other discounts.

Baji

In Baji we want to finish the fight as soon as possible. This is usually done in close-range combat. To do this the Baji fighter needs to get in close with his opponent. For getting into close contact Baji includes different sets of principles and techniques, like Liu Da Kai (6 big openings) and the "ai, bang, ji, kao" principles from the 'eight great principles of Baji'. This course will cover different ways of entering into close-range combat taken from these principles and the forms of Baji.

Time: Sunday 11.3.2012 at 10-16

Place: Elias school, Ehrensvärdintie 31-35, Helsinki.

Price: 30 euros.

Qigong

The theory of Qigong and practical exercises. Both beginners and advanced students are welcome.

Time: Sunday 15.4.2012 at 10-16

Place: Elias school, Ehrensvärdintie 31-35, Helsinki.

Price: 30 euros.

Equipment needed on the courses: T-shirt and workout pants. Indoor shoes (recommended), socks or bare feet. A pen and paper.

Spring 2012 courses

Registration

All those who are attending classes must fill in, for each term separately, the course registration form handed out in the classes. New members must in addition fill in the membership form. Teaching is given only to members of the association.

Course prices

* All courses on Mondays-Thursdays, except Gun (stick): 75€/course, single lesson fee: 8€.

* Gun (stick): 38€/course, single lesson fee: 4€.

* Friday evening Taiji courses: 65€/course, single lesson fee: 8€.

Mon-Thu courses will most likely have 14-16 lessons, depending on the course, and master Lü will be present 12-14 times accordingly. Friday evening Taiji classes will most likely have 14 lessons with master Lü present 10 times, hence the lower price.

Discounts

* Qigong season pass 180€. Includes all three weekly Qigong classes for the duration of the autumn term. This is approx. 20% off the normal price.

* Students, the retired and the unemployed get a 20% discount off the course prices.

* If you choose four or more courses, you get 25% off the total price.

Note: These discounts cannot be combined, you can only get one at a time.

Additional information about the courses:

No classes:

* At Zacharias Topeliusskolan 20.-21.2. (winter holiday)

* Töölö elementary school 23.2. (winter holiday)

* Aleksis Kivi school 24.2. (winter holiday)

* 5.-6.4. and 9.4. (Easter)

Other exceptions:

* Master Lü is in China 23.3.-4.4., classes will then be cancelled or conducted by a substitute teacher.

* Fridays 17.2. ja 27.4. Master Lü is in Sweden and classes will be handled by a substitute teacher.

* At the German School Wednesday evening classes will be moved to alternative rooms as follows: 18.1. 4th floor music class, 15.2. and 25.4. the gym which is right next to the festival hall.

* As usual, unfortunately other exceptions during the term are possible. These will be announced separately.

* On Saturday mornings there's free training at Hesperia park starting at 9:00 whenever our teacher is present.

* We do not organize separate beginners' courses on the following: Qigong, Xingyi & Bagua, Taiji tuishou and Chen style Taiji sword. Beginners are welcome to join the classes at any time.

Exceptions in teaching, autumn 2011

We are forced to announce the following exceptions to the autumn 2011 term teaching:

* Master Lü has to travel to China 11.10.-24.10. due to family reasons. All teaching will be taken care of by substitute teachers during this period.

* The schools have their autumn vacation on Thu 13.10. - Fri 14.10. and there are no classes on these days.

* Friday 28.10. and Thursday 10.11. master Lü is teaching abroad and all classes will be taken care of by substitute teachers.

* Aleksis Kivi school has cancelled our shifts on Fridays 11.11. and 18.11. so there are no classes then.

* On Tuesday 6.12. there are no classes due to Independence day.

Those registered on the Friday Taiji classes will get as compensation the upcoming weekend courses for half the price (cannot be combined with other discounts). Please indicate the usage of this discount in the message field of the payment or when paying in cash.

We apologise for these changes.

Autumn Season 2011 Weekend Courses

The General Principles Of Taiji And Style-specific Characteristics

This course covers both general, style-independent principles of Taiji as well as the special characteristics of the Chen and Yang styles and their differences. The course will consist of both lecturing and practical exercises. It is suitable for all Taiji players regardless of the style they practise.

Time and place: Saturday 5.11.2011 10-16 at Elias school, Ehrensvärdintie 31-35, Helsinki. There will be a one-hour lunch break.

Taiji's Tuishou Pair Training

The principles of Tuishou and practical training. This course is suitable for both beginners and advanced students and provides a good opportunity to start Taiji's pair training.

Time and place: Sunday 6.11.2011 at 10-16 at Elias school, Ehrensvärdintie 31-35, Helsinki. There will be a one-hour lunch break.

Price: 35 euros for one day, 60 euros for the whole weekend.

Qigong

The theory of Qigong and practical exercises. Both beginners and advanced students are welcome.

Time and place: Saturday 19.11.2011 at 10-13 and 15-17 at Studio 8 The Yoga Center, Hietalahdenkatu 8 A 18 (4th floor). The day consists of two sessions separated by a two-hour break. There will be other activity in the premises during the break so we will leave to have lunch for example.

Price: 35 euros

Bajiquan's Takedown Techniques

We will practise Baji's typical takedown techniques combined with strikes.

Time and place: Sunday 20.11.2011 at 11-17 at Studio 8 The Yoga Center, Hietalahdenkatu 8 A 18 (4th floor). There will be a one-hour lunch break.

Price: 35 euros.

Summer season 2011 courses

More information about the summer term:

* The teaching is given, as usual, at the Hesperia park close to the Töölönlahti shore. See the Teaching premises page for more info.

* The summer term consists of two periods: 10.5.-26.5. and 11.7.-31.8. At other times master Lü is travelling.

* Each course costs 50 € (60 min/week for the duration of the summer term, 10 or 11 lessons depending on the course).

* Price for a single lesson: 6 € (60 min)

Additional information about the courses

* There are no Taiji classes on Friday 15.4. because the Aleksis Kivi school is closed due to the parliamentary election.

* During the skiing holiday week (week 8) there are no classes at Elias school, Töölö elementary school and Aleksis Kivi school. All other classes are given as usual.

* The courses end 21.4., there is no class on 22.4. (Good Friday). On the last week of April, 26.4.-29.4. the training premises are available for free training as follows: Kamppi sports centre and Elias school on Tuesday 26.4., Töölö sports hall and Töölö Elementary school on Thursday 28.4. and Aleksis Kivi school on Friday 29.4. Master Lü is travelling on that week.

* On Saturday mornings there's free training at Hesperia park starting at 9:00.

* We do not organize separate beginners' courses on the following: Qigong, Xingyi & Bagua, Taiji tuishou and Chen style Taiji sword. Beginners are welcome to join the classes at any time.

* When going to the Thursday morning qigong class in Töölön kisahalli you do not have to pay the entrance fee. If necessary, tell the guards that you're going to a Baji association class in the choreography room.

Spring Season 2011 Weekend Courses

Baji sabre

Saturday 12.2.2011 10-16 at Elias school, Ehrensvärdintie 31-35, Helsinki. There will be a one-hour lunch break.

Note: The association has a couple of sabres to borrow. Reserve yours by contacting Ville Heikkala, contact info below. If you have a sabre there is no need to register. A sword or a stick of suitable size can also be used as a substitute for a sabre.

Qigong - Taoism And Buddhism In Internal Training

A lecture and practical training on the fundamental principles in qigong's internal training which have their roots in the taoist and buddhist traditions.

Taoist Principles In Taiji

The influence of taoist training in the Taiji training system. It can be said that Chen style Taiji is more clearly based on the taoist system. Hence this day is more oriented towards Chen style. Includes both lectures and practical training.

Buddhist Principles In Taiji

How are buddhist principles applied in Taiji training? This day is more oriented towards the Yang style of Taiji which can be said to be based more on buddhist principles. Lectures and practical training.

* Note: When going to the Thursday morning qigong class in Töölön kisahalli you do not have to pay the entrance fee. If necessary, tell the guards that you're going to a Baji association class in the choreography room. The qigong class on Wednesday evening is in the festival hall of the German school. An exception is the first class on Wednesday 1.9. which is in class room 211.
